TEFL certificate

Note: This program is not available in 2014/15.

The TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate program is a full-time program for 51ÎÛÂþ students who intend to teach English language classes in non-English speaking countries. These students may be international or domestic students. The program prepares students by giving them a thorough grounding in language teaching theory and methodology, English language structure, teaching approaches for each of the four skills, assessment, and other specialized areas English language instruction. Students will have the opportunity to observe English language teaching in a variety of teaching environments and will also participate in peer based teaching activities.

Entrance requirements

1. B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent or minimum of 19 years of age.

2. Applicants must satisfy the English language proficiency requirement. For details on how this requirement may be met, see English language proficiency requirement in the Admissions section of the calendar.

This program is not accepting applications for 2014/15.

Submit the application fee along with your 51ÎÛÂþ application for admission form and all supporting documents to the Office of the Registrar (OReg). You can apply online or download an application form at . Application forms are also available from any OReg or Student Services office.

Program requirements

Students whose cumulative grade point average falls below 2.0 during their program are subject to academic warning and/or removal from the program.

Graduation

Students must submit a Request for Graduation form to the 51ÎÛÂþ Office of the Registrar by April 1. All program requirements must be met by April 30 in order to participate in the June graduation ceremony. There is a $25 graduation fee.
